ISLAMABAD: The high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani concluded here at PM House in which Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani briefed in detail the top political leadership on current security situation in the country.The military leadership also briefed the politicians on possible operation in Waziristan and its implications.
The MNA’s representing FATA aired their concerns regarding displacement of the people in case of military operation in Waziristan and stressed need for making elaborate arrangements for their accommodation.
The meeting, which continued for 4 and half hour, agreed on taking effective steps for tackling the wave of terrorism across the country.
The political leadership lauded the efforts being made and sacrifices rendered by the Army with the aim to purge militancy and extremism from the country.
The political leadership expressed complete confidence in the strategy being adopted by Pak Army for tackling the insurgency and extremism.
Besides PM and COAS, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, ISI Chief General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Governor NWFP Awais Ahmed Ghani, chief ministers of the four provinces, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar, Deputy Convener of MQM’s Rabita Committee Dr. Farooq Sattar, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senator Raza Rabbani, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin were present at the meeting.
Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif could not attend the meeting due to indisposition while Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is not present too
