
Addressing a ceremony held here at Police Lines he paid rich tributes to the Frontier police for their invaluable sacrifices in the war against terrorism. General Kayani said the sacrifices rendered by the Frontier Police in the war against terrorists despite meager resources were highly commendable and such examples of sacrifices and valour were difficult to found.
“Pakistan was founded in the name of Islam by our forefathers and each one of us should work for strengthening the country and should made commitment towards achieving the goal of turning the country into a true Islamic state”, he remarked.
He said that the protection and solidarity of the country are our main objectives as our coming generation owes this debt to us and resolved that any threat to the sovereignty and integrity of the country would not be tolerated.
General Kayani said that Pak Army has the capability and the capacity to fight the war against terrorists and the sacrifices rendered by the Pak Army reflects the level of their morale.
Referring to the fallout of the operation Rah-e-Nijat in the South Waziristan Agency on Peshawar in particular and Frontier in general, he highly praised the courage and patience of the Peshawarites and added that the whole world has lauded the courage and sacrifices of the people of Peshawar.
He said that terrorists’ attacks and bomb blasts were expected in the country as a reaction of the on-going successful operation of the Pakistan Army in South Waziristan Agency. However, he added that Peshawar was the worst hit as maximum number of blasts and terrorist activities were conducted here.
Chief of Army Staff reiterated his resolve that peace would be restored in the country and in Peshawar at any cost.
He said that Pakistan Army would continue its cooperation with the Frontier Police and added that even if the Pak Army has to cut down its enrolment for the training of the Frontier Police, he would do that.
General Kayani said that he would present blank cheque to NWFP Inspector General Police to cater the weapons and ammunition needed for the Frontier police.
Earlier, he announced Rs.20 million for the Frontier Police Shuhada Fund and met with the injured police officials and with their parents.
In his welcome speech, IGP NWFP Malik Neveed Khan said that the Frontier Police had rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism by laying down their lives.
He said that the Frontier police was working shoulder to shoulder with the Pak Army adding that the Frontier Police has lost 192 officials in the last two years.
Malik Naveed Khan said that police recovered 60000 kg explosive material, 32 suicide jackets and 708 mortar shells so far.
He thanked Pak Army for cooperation with the Frontier police and Chief of Army Staff for visiting the war affected city that has helped in raising the morale of the law enforcers and the people of the area.
He also briefed COAS about the Shuhada Package that was established for the police officials who embraced martyrdom in the line of their duty.
